Don't call it a Google Glass comeback... yet.

Google has been quietly delivering its new generation of Glass to a variety of businesses, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The new enterprise Glass differs from the first iteration in that it attaches to a set of glasses, rather than having its own wire frame.

Google discontinued the first version of Glass in January, placing Nest founder Tony Fadell at the head of developing the next generation. The first generation was a bit of a failure for Google, both in terms of its limited functionality and its image; many found it pretentious and creepy.

If this report is true, it signals a much more humble Google than the one that launched the original Glass at an extravagant conference featuring skydivers. It is instead going to deliver the product to developers first, with businesses receiving deliveries in the fall. A new consumer version will follow next year at the earliest.

The company would be wise to not repeat its past mistakes, as the original Glass was somewhat of a PR disaster for Google.

The new glass will get a boost in battery life and better wireless connectivity. In addition, Google reportedly developed an extra battery pack which can magnetize to the device. The report also states that Glass will get a faster processor and a longer, thinner field of vision.

Google has not yet responded to a Mashable request for comment.

Even with the eventual launch of a new consumer product, earlier reports stated Glass 2.0 will be much more focused on enterprise, which certainly seems like a wise move in terms of image.

Wearable technology communicates a lot about the wearer, whether they want it to or not, and Glass makes a much more overt statement than something subtle like a watch.
